Updates will be less frequent

In case it's not obvious, less is being posted here as we now have a method of letting members post their own news. You want to go to ERC's group and sign up if you want to contribute.

Turkey Trot is Coming!

13 November 2008 - Turkey Trot Registrations - we have the current listing here. With 1127 registered, we're 500+ over where we were last year. We only have 2300 chips for the race this year, and we're on a pace to sell out, so if you're going to register, don't wait for the last minute.

October Race Results

18 October 2008 - It's been a busy month. Her Times was on the 11th - Results are available Here and here.. On the 18th of October we had the Endurance Run (107 finishers - wow) and the District 4 XC meet (check out the North East Varsity Boys' performance).

Erie Marathon

15 September 2008 - I'm told it was hot & muggy. Good thing I wasn't there. Anrdrew Holland won the men's race in 2:45:57, while top lady was Andrea McGehee in 3:15:17. Full results available here.

Newsletter Stuffing

30 August 2008 - From Dave Comi - Newsletter stuffing for September will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, 7 PM at Community Blood Bank 2646 Peach St. Please park behind the building, take the elevator to the 2nd floor.

Google Groups

25 August 2008 - We need a place for discussions and topics for the club. I can't write a good one myself, so I've created a group at Google Groups for the Erie Runners Club. Open to the public for viewing, and open to Members for posting (invitation only), it's a good place to post information important to the Erie Running (walking, biking, fitness) community.

Hamot 10k Results

20 August 2008 - Haven't had time to recompile results for our site, so for now you can check them out at Runhigh.com.

Hamot 10k

15 August 2008 - The Final Hamot 10k Pre-Reg listing is here. Be sure to get down there early for packet pickup.

Be a Part of Local History

11 August 2008
This year, this Wednesday, marks the 100th running of the twilight quad in Grove City. Courtney's Ice Cream Race is the 4th race in the 25th year for the events. To celebrate this great event, Bill Rodgers (yes, that Bill Rodgers) is slated to make an appearance. Will he win, place or show? Who knows? But it promises to be a great event.

Incidentally, they don't call it an Ice Cream race for nothing. All the Ice Cream you like will be available after the race. Last year, 100 gallons disappeared. Can we do more? Come down and find out for yourself. More information here.
Incidentally, if you bring your driver's license with you to registration, they can get you through just a little faster.

Run for the Fallen

Runners:
If you are so inclined (as I know you will be), please run a mile for those who lost their lives so we could live ours on August 24th...any time, any where.
Pass it on to your family and friends...the more the merrier. The Run for the Fallen is a cross-country run that started in CA in June and will end at Arlington National Cemetery on Aug 24. In a show of solidarity for the almost 5,000 killed so far in Iraq and Afghanistan you can download a bib, run a mile (on the 24th/anywhere) and send in a photo to www.runforthefallen.org .
Beginning Flag Day, June 14, 2008, a dedicated team of runners will run across America from Fort Irwin, CA to Arlington National Cemetery, one mile for every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, and Marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. ...
Please pass this on to any runners or running groups you know.

Opportunity only knocks once

Hello,
The Warren County YMCA is hosting the Tango Adventure Race on Saturday, August 2nd. The race is comprised of [sic] a half marathon, 20 mile bike ride, 2 mile swim, orienteering course, 4.5 mile run and an 8 mile canoe ride. We currently have 2 relay teams that are each in need of a 1/2 marathon runner. The runner will leave the Y at 7:00 am and run out to Kinzua beach. If you have done the YMCA's SuperKwik challenge 1/2 before, it is the same course, only backwards.
If you know of anyone that may be interested in running as part of a team, please contact Laurie Merenick at laurie@warrenymca.org ASAP! Thanks for your help!

Erie Times News Duathlon at Discover Presque Isle

7/27/2008 - Great weather combined with great organization to pull off one of the best duathlons in recent memory. The two 5ks (One to Perry Monoument, one out past Sunset Point) combined with a great bike course to make a pretty nice race. The smell of pancakes brought more than 80 people on race morning to combine with the pre-registered group to give us 205 finishers. Great race. Josh Loren of Waterford turned in an individual best of 1:07:17 and Pamela McGormick of Erie turned in a ladies' best of 1:14:18. Full results may be found here. Watch for results in Monday's paper as well.

Half Marathon Results

(updated 7/21/2008 - 6:00 pm) 568 folks braved the heat and humidity to make this one of the best half marathons yet. Jake Walker of Ellwood City, PA had a great time of 1:07:55 - A course record for certain. The current course went into effect in 2002. Any time that may have been shorter is certain to have been run on a different course. Melissa Schaeffer of Sarver PA had a ladies' best time of 1:30:46. Full results are available here. Thanks to those who pointed out earlier discrepencies. Incidentally, the best time since 1991 was 1:08:33 by Andrew Herr of Latrobe, PA in 2002.

Half Marathon Update

18 July 2008 - Half Marathon Status:
Packet Pickup is at the Beach #1 Parking Lot

Do the Du - now with ChampionChip Goodness

10 July 2008 - Those of you who are holding out, you can stop now. Check out the Du this year. You spoke, they listened. The chips are back, splits are back, and the new, more interesting course is back. See full info here and sign up soon!

PI Half Marathon

22 June 2008 - Thanks for your patience. If I had known how much work a newborn was, I would have passed on this year. But she's thriving, and I'm catching up. Folks who have preregistered already can check their registrations here.
Finishers Medals - There are no finishers' medals for this event.
Host hotels - Don't have them. We've never had one for the half. I can recommend the folks that support the marathon, but the PI half doesn't get their rates. Best bet? Try Expedia or Travelocity. (I have no affiliation with either of those sites).
Packet Pickup - You do NOT have to pick up your packet before race morning. Race morning pickup is 6:00 to 7:15 am. Early (Friday & Saturday) is for the convenience of those who can come & get it early.

USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Columbus

16 June 2008 - The Greater Columbus Sports Commission is hosting the 2008 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 20 – 22 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University -  http://www.columbus08.com   The Junior Championships is also in need of volunteers to help with this outstanding event.

This is USA Track & Field’s premier event for junior track & field athletes. It is an opportunity for Columbus to watch up-and-coming track & field stars compete. Winners will represent the United States in the World Championships and Pan American Games.

Volunteers still needed. See web site for more info.

By the Light, by the light of the silvery moon(shine) and Cheesecake.

14 June 2008 - Dale Werner & crew have once again outdone themselves. And it shows. Results are here.

Mother's Day 5k

11 May 2008 - a great crowd, 412 strong, registerd for the race (130 just this morning) and braved the elements (sun. light wind, good runnin' weather) to get out with MOM and enjoy Presque Isle. As always, roses greeted Mom at the end. For those interested, times may be reviewed here.

Law Day 5k

3 May 2008 - 303 registered, 273 finisher, and a new record for a great downtown event. Phil Friedman was the first Attorney with a time of 18:31, while Bridget Baranyai of Lewisburg PA was the first lady Attorney with a time of 23:10. All the other results, including the well-attended walk division, are available here.

Shameless Plug

28 April 2008 - Law Day 5k is Saturday at the Courthouse / Perry Square. Chip timing and great course make for a great event. Come on down! (And read on!)

Change of Venue

28 April 2008 - The next Newsletter (5/5/2008) stuffing will be at the Plymouth Tavern (not the Glenwood YMCA). I don't know what that will do for attendance, but it will go well for those who don't like the parking situation at Glenwood. The June stuffing will be there as well.

Speaking of the Plymouth, the May membership meeting will NOT be at the Plymouth. No, sir. May starts the outdoor meeting season, and the May meeting will be at Asbury Park. Bring a dish to share, if you're of a mind. Beverages, hot dogs, even veggie dogs will be provided, courtesy of the ERC. Atmosphere courtesy of the great outdoors. Leadership courtesy of David Comi.

Poker Run

12 April 2008 - almost tax time, and 390 people still managed to register for the Poker Run. Even more impressive is that 327 actually finished! Great job, folks. Makes David proud. That said, check out the results here.

Poker Run Registrations

4 April 2008 - Just got the latest list of registrations for the Poker Run. If you're in, you're in. You can check your registrations here.

Winter Series Results

15 March 2008 - Greg Dillon didn't show (with his 6 minute lead), so it was a race today. A race that "the Judge" John Trucilla ran away with with a total time of 1:52:26 for 17.4 miles. Pamela Wassell edged out Mary Kaye Pazder with a time of 2:01:92. See the results for the full story.

What a great day for a Race!

15 March 2008 - We had a record 371 registered for today's race, with a record 332 finishers between the 5k Fun Run and the 10k Race. For the record - Chris Strohm (18:20) and Laura Conley (24:37) were first male & female in the 5k, while William Drexler (35:33) and Jennifer Grand (40:13) took top honors in the 10k. Full results are available here.

The Shirts!

Those of you who registered for St. Pat's and ordered shirts - you paid for them, you'll get them. But you'll have to come get them. I'll have them at the Poker Run and the Membership meetings for April and May. You have three months to arrange to get them, after which time they will be forfeit. If the race and the meetings are not viable for you, send me a note (jimlang@bigwhitetrailer.com) and we'll work something else out.

Bring your Driver's License

14 Mar 2008 - If you plan to register on race morning, bring your drivers license & speed things along. We have 295 pre-registered and will get more on race morning. The weather looks promising, so we should have perfect conditions to race.

Here it comes!

13 March 2008 - St. Pat's and a wintry mix are headed at us at breakneck speed, which should surprise nobody. We'll be out there, ready and waiting.

If you're planning to register on race morning, please bring your driver's license. We have a new registration system that can read your application information from your license much more quickly than we can type it in. Of course, if you don't have a license, we can still take care of you, just not as quickly.

Race Cencellation - Right. We don't cancel races. We'll be out on the park on race morning. If the park does happen to close, we'll make every effort to post that information here. If it's not posted here, the race will go on.

St. Pat's Registrations

1 March 2008 - well, I'm a little behind (surprised?), but I've got St. Pat's caught up. We're well ahead of last year. I don't know the exact numbers for triple crown eligibility, but I'd love to give away a bunch of backpacks. I can also use more volunteers. If you're free, drop me a line (jimlang@bigwhitetrailer.com ) and I'll put you to work.

I'm giving away gift certificates to volunteers and to participants. $25 & $50 to Marketplace grill and $10 to Achilles Running Shop (in Meadville) to be handed out. All but the overall winners are by random drawing. Participants need be present to win. I'll announce the volunteer winners first, and they DON'T need to be present. (They may still be out on the course).

If you plan to register on race day, PLEASE bring your drivers license. I have a new program that I hope to use to speed up registration and reduce the number of typographical errors. Bring them out and help us out.

Pre-registration list is available here.

Ed Whitman - RIP

18 February 2008 - From Barb Filutze: FYI….Ed Whitman was one of the founding members of the Erie Runners Club back in mid 70's.  He was a great leader and one of original directors of Presque Isle Marathon.

I Predict nasty weather

10 February 2008 - Okay, hindsight is 20/20. It was nasty. But that didn't prevent 45 of our bravest from venturing out to Presque Isle and the Rotary Pavillion to participate in the 2008 Prediction Run. Margy Somora was (just about) spot-on and had her choice of Chocolaty Treats. 5 (random) folks received gift certificates ot Achilles Running Shop in Meadville. And just about everyone chilled. Full results are available here.

Membership has its benefits

30 January 2007 - If you haven't heard yet, there are benefits to membership. Not only do you get discounts for many of the club's races and discounts at local establishments, you also get free entry into the 2008 ERC Scholarship Poker Run. More information as the race comes closer.

New Link for an old need

17 January 2008 - Achilles Running Shop, in Meadville, PA, is Northwestern PA's first specialty shop in Northwest PA. Check them out. (If you're closer to Mentor, OH, they have a shop there as well).

From the Better Late than Never Dept.

from Jeff Mills of our eastern contingent. (Okay, east of the center of town). Jim:

I did it! Here's the link with a few photos from the NYC marathon where I finished in just under 4 hours placing 9,416th out of over 38,000 finishers (a record finishing crowd)! It was an amazing race and I still can't believe how many people turned out to cheer on the runners - over 2.5 million throughout New York's Five Boroughs! To view the photos you need to type in "880" under Bib Number. http://www.brightroom.com/go.asp?24470614

I dedicated the run to my sister Becky, as you can see on my singlet. Becky was battling breast cancer since January and stuck around to watch me finish this race before passing on 10 days later. She was 36 and leaves behind a 1 year old and 5 year old. She fought to the very end and never gave up. Cancer sucks. I'll be showing up to help with monthly letter stuffing next year and other errc events. Have a great and cheerful holiday~

Jeff

New Year's Day 5 Mile Race

1 Jan 2008 - Okay - I managed to get the year right the first time, but I'll be writing 2007 for a while. Pamela Wassell led the ladies with a time of 33:55, while Kenneth Foster showed the men how it's done with a time of 27:22. Wow. Fast. Full results are available on the results page.

Other Races, Other Places

On Saturday December 8th Luigi Montagna (my dad), Rick Hardesty, and myself completed the 30th annual Kiawah Is. Marathon. The old timers did well finishing 4th and 5th respectively in the 50-54 age group. Luigi finished with a time of 3:19:55 which was good enough for 68th overall while Rick was not too far behind finishing in 3:23:03, good enough for 75th overall.
As for myself, it was my first marathon and couldn't have done it without their encouragement over the past several weeks. With near perfect conditions on a flat and fast course, I managed to finish in 3:00:38 for 16th place overall and 1st in my age group 25-29. It was a good weekend for the club with all of us bringing home an award. However, there was something missing. There was noone there singing Blue Grass tunes using rib bones for a drum beat! Has anyone seen Ronny Johnston? Maybe he's in Nashville telling jokes and playing with Ricky the diaper wearing monkey!
Top Male: Chuck Engle 2:39:06
Top Female: Jennifer Jacobs 2:57:07

New Year's Day

10 December 2007 - Yes, it's almost the end of the year, and we're getting ready for the second race of our winter Series. Be sure to register early (by this Friday!) for the New Year's Day 5 Mile Race.

Snowflake 5k

8 December 2007 - 239 registered, 220 finished. Pam Wassell was top lady, and Josh Arthur was first man. The weather was good and the roads were fair. A good time was had. Good job, Dan. Again. Full results are available here.

Turkey Trots - Shirts & things.

25 November 2007 - All awards and shirts will be brought to the ERC membership meeting on December 10, at 7:00 pm at the Plymouth Tavern, 11th and State. If you are looking for either item please come to this meeting to take care of business. Everyone can be taken care of at once. Send someone to pick up if you can't be there. This is the last chance for this year. David Comi.

Turkey Trot Results

22 November 2007 - With 1587 finishers & 2026 registered, we had a pretty good turnout. With better weather, who knows? Anyway, my turkey is done & we're getting ready for pie, so here are the results. Happy Thanksgiving.

Turkey Trot filling up fast

17 November 2007 - Looks like we're up to exactly 1500 people. We only have chips for 2000, but we have more on the way. If you're planning to race, register at the Blood Bank on Monday or Wednesday if you didn't get to Active.com on time. Don't come on Thursday morning if you can get down on Monday or Wednesday. Those volunteers deserve better than that. If you are registered, you can check your registration here.

Endurance Run & Catch Up.

21 October 2007 - Yes, we're still here. Just busy with other races, other places. One of those events is the Endurance Run. 2167 - that's the number of miles run, walked, and crawled yesterday. The weather kept some folks away, and the event brought others in. The longest run (in distance) was Kurt Osadchuk with 57 miles. Richard Sitter (at 78) ran the longest time (11:59:29.7) for his 53 miles. Linda Brooks did 50 miles in 11:26:27.85. This after pulling a muscle on her 47th lap. No quit there. Margaret Walker, at 85, pulled in 10 laps. There were 32 folks who exceeded the marathon distance, so received a marathon micro-fiber shirt. Full results (and bragging rights) are here.

New Links -

12 Sept 2007 - We've turned down links to gambling sites and other sites that don't fit with our mission, but we have recently added The Fredericksburg Area Running Club. Check them out....

Scheduling races for 2008

7 Sept 2007 - Thos interested in scheduling the 2008 races should show at Linda Huegel's house on Monday. It should be a relatively short meeting, but several pressing questions will be answered. (Who is directing the half in 2008?)

Membership Meeting

From Misty O'Connor - 7 Sept 2007 - Annual Membership Meeting and Picnic: Misty O'Connor's house, (redacted)

5:30 Group run through a European style cross-country course behind O'Connor property through a woody, hilly gorge area. 6:00 Short membership meeting 6:30 Food and Fun: Be ready to play volleyball, soccer, Frisbee, or go fishing. At dusk we will have a bon fire with smores and good stories. Bring extra clothes if you are running and sweats for later when it gets cooler in the evening.

Erie Marathon News

3 September 2007 - SUPPORT ERC MARATHON-HALF MARATHON-5K: You still have time to sign up for either event on Saturday 9/8 at the Rotary Pavilion for $60 - $50 - $15. There is NO DAY of RACE REGISTRATION. Join the other 1,000 registrants on Saturday from 12 - 7 for registration/packet pick-up, Expo and pasta dinner (4-7). Or come on out Sunday and cheer them on. We have several entrants shooting to qualify for the Olympic marathon trials so it should also be a good race to watch.

Learn more about Amy by visiting: See Amy Run. "The only limits we have are the ones we set for ourselves."

Hamot 10k

19 August 2007 - Today was our youngest member's first race - Emma Lauren Lang, at 30 days old, completed her first toddler trot (with a little help from her friends...) Anyway, Matt Robson of Latrobe was the first man in 34:01, while Jennifer Martin, of Erie, was the first lady in 38:48. We also had 5k Run and 5k Walk, followed by the toddlers & kids' quarter mile. Mayor SInnot handed out the awards, and a good time was had by all. Full results are available here.

Hamot Status

10 August 2007 - Thanks to my wife & daughter, Hamot registrations are caught up. We're at 387 registered (including the kinder) so far and are a bit ahead of last year. If you'd like to check your registration, please check it here. And remember, pre-registered entries are cooler, more attractive, and more likely to succeed.

Shameless Plug

3 August 2007 - I don't do this often, but now's the time. The Findley Lake Nature center has revived their 10k. This year marks the 3rd running of the event in its present incarnation. The Mills have been working hard to put it together, but turnout has been low. I believe that this is one of the nicer races in the region and it's not on Presque Isle. A nice 10k loop around Findley Lake is hard to beat. So check out the info (An app will be in your newsletter) and see if you can't make it on the 11th of August.

Presque Isle Duathlon

29 July 2007 - 177 tags pulled for 127 individuals and 50 teams at the Duathlon this morning. Jennifer Martin was first lady with a time of 1:12:36.56. Rich Crowley was the first man across in 1:06:39.79. Nice way to spend a Sunday morning. Full results are available here.

Erie Marathon News

17 July 2007 - Okay, we still have 6 races to go this year, so let's move on. There's more news on the marathon. Find it here.

Half Marathon Results

15 July 2007 - Gregory Byrnes of Pittsburgh was the first man across in 1:14:24.55 while the first lady was Melissa Schaeffer of Sarver, PA in 1:25:59.15. Anthony Siliano was the first wheel (hand-cycle) across the line in 1:14:20.8. In all, we had 606 registered, 580 finishers, and 177 of them came out this morning. (I really wish some of them had pre-registered). Full results are available here.

Last Minute Half Marathon Info

  • Packet Pickup - (shirt & bib)
    • Silk Screen Unlimited (8th & LIncoln) on Friday Afternoon & Saturday Morning.

    • Beach 1 from 6:00 to 7:15 am
  • You may wait to pick everything up on Sunday morning (especially if you're from out of town)

  • The pre-reg roster is final. These folks are guaranteed a tank-top.
  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday registrations are NOT guaranteed a shirt. (You should pre-register if you want a shirt). Shirts may be available on a first-come, first served basis.

Half Marathon Update

11 July 2007 - Okay, what part about the State Budget Approval isn't clear? The race is on, we have 396 registered, and we're in pretty good shape. We have a boatload for the picnic, and all is right with the world. In case I don't get a chance later, THANK YOU to all the volunteers. Without them, it wouldn't happen. The current list of registered folks is here. Please be sure to check your division, age & Tank Top size. In case it's not clear yet, there are no T-Shirts this year. (Simpler for my volunteers).

They're Ba-a-a-ack!

10 July 2007 - I just saw on the news that the budget mess is settled. The Half is on and I'll turn Active.com back on. Thanks to all for your patience & understanding. All those who waited.... well. Anyway, it's back.

Due to circumstances beyond our control...

9 July 2007 - Well, not completely beyond our control. We voted for them. The State of Pennsylvania has yet to pass a budget for the coming fiscal year, which means that, effective at Midnight Sunday night, all non-essential workers were to be furloughed. Which means our beloved Presque Isle State Park will not be open. A final decision on the status of the race will be made Friday if the budget doesn't pass.

In short, if the budget doesn't pass, we can't hold the half-marathon on PISP.

But what about the picnic at Waldameer? The picnic will go on regardless. Any who registered for the race gets to eat at the picnic for free. Friends & family will be able to buy a ticket at the pavilion ($6.50). Ride-a-rama tickets will be available cheap.

Other options may present, but (as the race director), I don't know if we can put an alternative together fast enough to put on a good race somewhere else. Should the race be cancelled, all registrations will carry to next year (no fee, no paperwork, just automatically carry over).

Please, do NOT call or email about whether the event is still on. Final status will be posted here on Friday morning and (should the event be cancelled), I'm going to be very busy calling all participants (or emailing if I have valid emails) to tell them the status. Thank you.

Catching Up

6 July 2007 - Busy, but that's a Good Thing.

  • The Liberty 10k results are posted here. Thanks to all who came out.
  • Our membership meeting is at Allison Keenan's residence in North East. Check the calendar here.
    • Bring a dish or (if a bachelor) a bag of chips or snack.
    • Soda & other beverages, as well as 'dogs, provided by ERC.
    • Atmosphere provided by our hostess
  • Cats with 3 tails have nothing on this place.

Race in Cleveland - For those looking for something to do the day before the Half, a former studend @ Mercyhurst sent me a note about the Prayers from Maria 5k Run & 1 Mile Walk. Check it out here.

Half Marathon Registrations

29 June 2007 - for those who are wondering - yes, we have reg. 178 so far (ahead of last year). The full list is available here (as of 6/26/2007).

Moonshine Shuffle

17 June 2007 - 178 Day-of-race registrations was only bested in 2004 (205). Jennifer Martin (18:41) was the first lady across the line, while 2-year-old Ellie Cardman was the last of the kinder in 7:50 for the kids' half mile. That's quck. Linda Huegel's Cheesecake & other food fare were a big hit after the race as well. Full results are available here.

LES 6k

4 June 2007 - 39 folks showed for a challenging afternoon race on the roads of North East, PA. Steven Battaglia of Clymer, NY won the 3.7 mile race in 22:25 with Chris Perkins of Wattsburg, PA led the ladies in 33:54. Burgers & Dogs were found after the event, and it's been reported that it was a racy event. Full results available here.

Shameless Plug

22 May 2007 - The Lake Erie Speedway Inaugural 6k is coming up on the 2nd of June, and you might want to check it out. They've somehow managed to convince the fine folks out there to get each entrant passes to the hospitality area and entry to the race (7:00 pm) for the race. Come out, run the race, then watch the race. What a way to spend a Saturday, huh? And you'll get to see some roads you've almost certainly never run before. See the informatin here.

3 Things.

13 May 2007 - There are 3 things to mention today. So don't miss out.

Lost & Found

Someone found a wedding band at the Beach 1 Bathhouse. It may be picked up at the Membership meeting on Monday. If you can't make it, drop a note to Jim Lang and we'll arrange for you to pick it up. (I won't mail it!) UPDATE - It's been turned in to the Info Desk at the Tom Ridge Center at the entrance to Presque Isle.

Membership Meeting.

Our summer meeting schedule is in effect, so we're meeting at Asbury Park on Monday night. Come one, come all. 'dogs, 'burgers, and sodas are standard fare. Bring a small dish & join in! I think 'tater salad sounds good...

Mothers Day race.

Of course, we can't forget our Mothers! But we knew you'd keep reading until you found it. Jim Samuels was the first man across the line today with a time of 17:16. Jenny Martin was the first lady in 18:36. Roses (a tradition) were handed out at the finish, and we chipped the race to make scoring easier (for those that wanted times). It went very well indeed. Full results are available here.

Law Day 5k

28 April 2007 - 204 registered - one walked of with his or her app, and 174 finished (including the phantom #195). As this is the Law Day run, let's talk about Kathleen Scibetta of Fairview in 23:33 and Michael Engdahl of Jamestown, NY in 17:05. These folks are attorneys, which is fitting. Full results are available here.

Membership Mishaps

19 April 2007 - It happens once or twice each year, and each year we try to make it right. What's that? Some members renew and don't get their newsletters. This year, with the failure of one of our printers, we've been passing things back and forth (a lot!) to get you your newsletters, and we seem to have missed again. So if you did not get your April newsletter, please drop a line to Julie Koehler (juliek@erie-runnersclub.org) and let her know. Also, tell her if you've talked to Dale Werner as well, as he received some calls and may have fixed it already. Thanks for your patience.

St. Pat's Results

18 March 2007 - 245 people showed for the race. We had 298 registered. Not bad for the number of "is the race still on" calls we had. Todd Shatynski was the first 10k runner across the line. Mary Kaye Pazder was the first lady. In the 5k, 61 participants came out. (Triple crown below). Full results are available here.

ERC Triple Crown - 2006-2007 edition

18 March 2007 - We had 115 shirts ordered, and gave away nearly 100 of them. We had 100 participants in the triple crown (some folks didn't make the deadline). Kevin Slagle was the first TC Winner with a total time of 1:51:09. First Master Tony Mazza came in at 1:56:43. First Lady was Pamela Wassell in 1:58:22, while First Lady Master was Pam Mortin with a time of 2:11:55. They'll get certificated mailed to them and mad props in the newsletter. Thanks to all who came out. (Oh, yes. Results are available here).

St. Pat's

17 March 2007 - We held the race. A boatload of people showed. But I don't have the results posted yet. My apologies. I'll get them posted as soon as I can see straight. (No, not green beer. Fatigue.) Oh, and thanks to all those who came out. Especially my volunteers.

The Race is On

16 March 2007 - We don't cancel races around here. Now, if PISP comes out at 9:30 tomorrow and tells us we must cancel, we'll cancel. But as of 9:00 this evening, it's on. I see no reason to cancel the event tomorrow. It's just snow. This is Erie.

Valentine Prediction Run

12 February 2007 - 59 folks registered, 50 finished. Good race, great times. David Donahue was the closest with a 3 second differential. Given how slick it was, that's doggone close. Elizabeth Bugbee would have been 2 seconds off if she hadn't changed her estimate before the race. As Dan says, anyone can win! Full results are available here.

St. Pat's and the Winter Series.

Info is posted here and the Winter Series info is here.

Marathon news.

8 February 2007 - There's news on the Marathon News page.

Latest & Greatest

Happy New Year!

1 January 2007 - 256 folks registered for the race (126 today, which is nearly half). 243 of those folks finished the race (plus a few bandits). Scott Gill of Madison, OH was the top male with a time of 28:31. First lady was (surprise!) Jennifer Martin, with a time of 31:20. Full results, as well as the printable results, are available here.

Endurance Classic

21 October 2006 - Apologies for the delay. There was a bit of manual work to do to get this page posted. Lloyd Thomas overtook Garry Rarer (Last year's longest runner) to finish with 76 miles to Garry's 74. Sue Albert improved on her performance from last year with 67 miles, a rise of 8 miles over her performance from last year. In all, 96 participants can count 2451 miles run, walked, staggered, and crawled. Thanks to everyone for coming out. Again, full results are available here.

Her Times 5k

14 October 2006 - The inagural Her Times 5K Women's Run/Walk went off without a hitch -- unless you could a little freezing rain, thunder, sleet and snow a hitch. But, despite the lousy weather, 162 women finished the 5K course -- for many, this was their first-ever 5K race. Top three women finishers were all masters -- 1st place was Fiona Branton, 2nd place was Debbie Mizikowski and 3rd place Barb Filutze. Results are available here.

Catching UP

12 September 2006 - Homeless Soles and Turkey Trot pre-registration lists are up. As of today. Get them in soon! A couple of notes:

  • Staples are bad. Don't staple checks to apps.
  • Tape is bad. If you tape an envelope shut, leave that little corner free so I can get my opener in.
  • The Turkey Trot apps you received in your October newsletter are not apps. They're order forms for extra shirts. Use the app from September or the one that can be found here.
  • Deadlines for early registration is coming up fast. PLEASE pre-register
  • Don't forget the Endurance Run!

Thanks.
